A Palestinian man attacked a security guard outside the town of Karmei Tzur, south of Gush Etzion early Wednesday morning, lightly wounding the guard, who was taken to Hadassah University Medical Center at Ein Karem in Yerushalayim and treated for stab wounds to the hand.
A second guard shot and killed the attacker.
According to media reports, the wounded security guard was 36-year-old Boris Balbrava, a resident of Karmei Tzur, who began work in the community’s security detail two weeks ago.
The incident occurred shortly after 5 am when a man approached the gate of the town by car. He exited the car and approached the guard shack, brandished a knife, opened the door to the shack and attacked Balbrava.
The attack came two days after 19-year-old Abed al-Karim Assi, an Israeli citizen, stabbed Rabbi Itamar Ben-Gal to death at a bus stop outside the city of Ariel, in Shomron.
