Shar Shechem Terror Attack Thwarted by Israel Police

Jerusalem (TPS) – Israel Border Police operating in East Jerusalem arrested on Monday an Arab resident of the Palestinian territories who intended to carry out an attack on Israeli security forces in East Jerusalem.

Border Police operating in At-Tur in East Jerusalem, approximately one kilometer from the Old City, stopped a bus belonging to the public transportation services of East Jerusalem for a routine inspection. A teenaged Palestinian passenger was taken aside for questioning after he was observed behaving suspiciously. Preliminary on-site interrogations revealed that the 19-year-old, a resident of the Palestinian territories, had no legal stay permits and was therefore brought for further questioning.

Further investigation brought forward that the suspect arrived from East Jerusalem that day and had intended to go to Shar Shechem, buy a knife and attack Israeli security forces stationed in the area.

The court extended the suspect’s detention until Wednesday when police will ask for a second extension to further the investigation.

The increased assessments, operational deployment, vigilance and professionalism of the officers and fighters constantly working in the area led to thwarting an attack on innocent people and security forces again, the operational activities will continue as long as necessary for the well-being and safety of local residents and visitors,” Israel Police stated.
