Shin Bet Uncovers Hamas Car Smuggling Ring

Jerusalem (TPS) – The Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) announced Wednesday that Hamas has successfully smuggled more than 100 automobiles into the Gaza Strip in 2016. Three men have been arrested, and the investigation is ongoing.

The smuggling ring includes three Palestinians from Gaza, as well as several Israeli citizens. Smugglers dismantled cars in Israel, hid the components in aid containers with the aid of Israeli truck drivers transporting the containers.

Shin Bet sources said the Israeli operatives knew they were working for Hamas agents, and added that they were not surprised to discover the smuggling operation at the Kerem Shalom Crossing. Security officials said the all-terrain vehicles were intended for Hamas security officials and members of the terror group’s military wing after being re-assembled once inside Gaza.

Shin Bet investigators discovered a large amount of material that had been prepared before being transferred to Gaza.
